In this lesson students will practice the phrases they learnt in previous lesson. In the previous lesson students learnt the phrases used to express levels of certainty about the future. (bound to, likely to, I doubt if, etc.). In this lesson they will put them into practice by some exercises and games.

Main Aims

  • Grammar: Practice the phrases used to express levels of certainty about future and personalise these pharases with the current issues about Turkey and world

Subsidiary Aims

  • To give students semi-controlled speaking practice to develop spoken accuracy using phareses they learnt in the previous lesson


Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To warm sts up and repeat their knowledge about the phareses

. Write these prompts on some pieces of paper : 1. Erdogan will win the next election. 2. Turkey will join the European Union. 3. 2020 Olympic Games will be in Turkey. 4. Recep will visit Albania this summer 5. Sercan will give up smoking 6. Yusuf will change his job next year 7. Clara will visit her daughter in London this year. . Show these prompts to students and ask them to make sentences using the phrases. . Correct any mistake made by students; use choral drill when necessary.

Controlled Written Practice (7-10 minutes) • to practice the phrases and their form with a Controlled Written Practice

. prepare a HO and write 10 sentences about Turkey and world current issues. . Before giving HOs change students’ seats so that they will work with different students. . Give HOs to sts and ask them to rewrite the sentences by using the phrases in pairs. . Check the answers WC. . Correct any mistakes when necessary.

CONTROLLED WRITING PRACTICE 2 (6-10 minutes) • To personalise the phareses in a pair work

. Prepare some colorful papers and write these on them: 1. get engaged \ married 2. have children 3. change jobs 4. buy\sell property 5. move to a different town\city 6. work\go on holiday abroad . stick them on WB and ask sts to work in pairs and make sentences about their partner using these ideas.

Semi-controlled Speaking Practice (5-8 minutes) • To make students use the phareses in a speaking game.

. prepare some numbers and some topics. Put them in a plastic bag. 1. Elections. 2. 2020 Olympic games 3. Turkish Football 4. Egypt 5. Syria . Divide sts into two groups . tell sts to choose a number from the bag. Each number will correspond a topic. . Sts discuss the topic using TL then carry on the game.
