Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students will know how to express their likes and dislikes by using gerunds and nouns.

Subsidiary Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

To begin with the class, the teacher is going to share the presentation on Google Jamboard with the students, so they can have access to it. Then, she is going to show them some pictures and will ask students to use annotation to share what they like and what they don't like. "Well, you are you going to draw a tick on the things that you like and an X on the things that you don't like". She is going to give them an example of how to do it. "In my case, I don't like onions, so I will draw a tick right here". After students do the activity, she is going to some students to share their ideas.

Exposure (10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

This stage is going to be divided into to parts. First of all, the students are going to read a text about two people (Daniela and Laura). They will have to predict what the text is about according to the pictures they can see. For this, they will have three options to select the topic. Also, the students will have to read the text to look for specific details. "Okay, let's read the text and pay attention to what Daniela and Laura like and dislike". They will have three minutes to read the text. Then, they will have to complete a quiz on Google forms. Students will do the activity individually first, after, they will work with a partner to check their answers and finally, the teacher is going to give them feedback.

Clarification (10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

This stage is going to be divided into three parts. The first acitivity is going to be focused on vocabulary for likes and dislikes: Like, Love, Enjoy, Hate, don't mind, dislike. The students will clasify those verbs into three categories: Positive, neutral or negative meaning. Students are going to use annotations to participate.The second activity will be based on form. The teacher is going to ask students about what goes after these verbs: Like, Love, Enjoy, Hate, don't mind, dislike. They will have two options (a. noun or ing form b infinitive). Later, she will show students some sentences and ask them about the form of the sentences. "what type of word is next to this sentence, is this a noun or a verb? This will be very useful to help students realize about the structure of the sentences. The last activity is going to be developed to practice pronunciation. The teacher is going to ask students to practice the words' pronunciation individually and then they will practice together with back chaining technique.

Controlled Practice (8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students are going to work with a filling the gap activity. They will use some nouns and gerunds to complete the sentences. They will work individually for 3 minutes. Then, they will work in pairs to compare the answers and finally, they will share the answers with the teacher, so she can give them feedback.

Free Practice (10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students are going to put all expressions they have been using before into practice (I like, love, enjoy, hate, don't mind and dislike). They will have to tell a partner about their likes and dislikes using these verbs. They will work together for 4 min

delayed error correction (4 minutes)

The teacher is going to give students feedback as it is usually done, but first she is going to ask some of them to share their partners' answers. Then, she will show students a word document with some good and wrong sentences they will analyze together with the teacher.
