Materials

Main Aims

  • To practice and revise extreme adjectives in the context of celebrations

Subsidiary Aims

  • To enable students to extend their lexical range as they start using extreme adjetives.
  • To enable students to practice their speaking skills by exchanging opinions and answers between each other.
  • To enable students to practice their reading comprehension skills, as they need to understand the context in which the extreme adjetives are used.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will share my screen and put in context the students, so I'll ask them: "When was the last time you celebrated something?" also showing two pictures. I'll nominate 2 or 3 students.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I'll give students a handout with a transcription of a phone call, they'll read the TL in context because they are highlighted already, and they should answer some simple questions about the text. After that I'll introduce the concept of extreme adjetives.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I'll use the three highlighted words and elicit the meaning, form and pronunciation in the slides. So, they will get them very clearly and we will create some examples together.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I'll do a fill the gap activity with extreme adjetives, then they'll compare their ansers in BORs and then I'll show the correct ones.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I'll ask learners to prepare a short story about their last celebration, in which they have to use the TL and if they want, some new extreme adjetives of their own. I'll give them some time to think, then they'll go to BORs and come back to the main room to conduct feedback and share our experiences.
