Different Phobias

Description

In this lesson students learn about different kind of phobias and the phrases they can use when they are afraid of something. The teacher talks about her own phobia and ask students about their phobias, Then the teacher talks about different phobias and she shows some pictures to the SS and ask them to guess which phobias are they related to. SS are going to learn new vocabularies that are used in the text.

Main Aims

  • To SS understand the reading and become able to talk about their phobias.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Teaching different vocabularies by using a reading.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher starts talking about her own phobia by using pictures.

Highlighting (1-2 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

The teacher is going to show some pictures and ask the students are they afraid of any of these pictures? If yes, which one and if no, what are they afraid of? The teacher also ask students to skim and scan the reading and answer to 2 questions.

Clarification (1-4 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

The teacher is going to teach blocking words in the reading by using pictures and then she is going to ask the students to read the text deeply to understand what is it talking about, then the teacher is going to ask the students which one was more interesting in their opinion.

Controlled Practice (1-2 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The SS are going to answer to true or false questions about the text.

Free Practice (1-5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The teacher is going to ask SS does anyone they know have a phobia? how did it start and how does it affect their life?
