Description

In this grammar lesson student will learn about making questions using question words in the present simple through guided discovery based on a reading text based on and interview with TV actors.l. The lesson starts with a lead in of students speculating about the people in the picture of the text, followed by the reading of the interview about their daily lives.of TV actors Sudents have to identify the quesions askied by the interviewer. They will then match the questions to their meaning or answers moving on to the form of the question words, the key TL. In the CP stage students wil have put in the correct order 6 questions after which they will practice the pronunciation of linking of 'do + you'. in asking quesion. They wlll then do a FP with peers in pairs / groups fo find out what htey have in common to each other.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of frunctional grammar using 'WH' question words to get information about others in the context of reading an interview with a TV actress.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and scan reading practice using a text about daily activities in the context of interview of a TV actress. To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a asking for informaiton in the context group conversations. To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a asking information questions to peers to talk about things they have in common.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T. capitalize on on the images in the text book and introduce the scenario in the images and then tell Ss if they know about the actress in the image and what questions they can ask in order to get the information about her. Allow open class discussion for two minutes.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

: Screenshare the task. Demo what is to be done and share link in chat and get Ss to underline the four 'WH' quesions in the text for 2 minutes. T monitor, check and correct by eliciting answers from the whole class. OCFB Answers: 1) Where are yout from Kari? 2) What time do you get up? 3) What about breakfast? 4) When do you have lunch? T. instruct Ss to do activity 'b' on the G. slide, do demo and give Ss 2 minute to due task. T. monitor, check and help Ss if necessary. T share answers on screen and dissolve doubts that Ss may have. OCFB Answers: 1) get up 2) get up 3) start 4) have

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

MEANING Share screen and show Ss. Google Jamboard frame 1 with the questions. T do demo and then share link in zoom chat. Ss access the link and do a matching activity of matching the questions to their functions. Ss work individually for 1 minute before going to BORs to peer check their answers for 2 minues. T monitor Ss, take note and then share the answers on the screen, check answers and give OCFB. ICQs: Do you have to answer or match the quesions with the functions? Match. Are you going to work individually first? Yes. And then in pairs? Yes. Q & A: 1. Where are you from Kari? a) for information about place. 2. . Where do you have dinner? Prnounciation: Do CP FIRST. Then check answers using the audio from CD 1 T 52 of the coursebook. T bring Ss attention to the pronunciation of ''do you'' in the audio. T screnshare Jamboard frame 4, replay question 1 of the audio Ss listen, T place enfasis on the pronunciation of 'do you' by showing the linking and stress on the board and then T drill class and Ss individually. T repeat the process for two or three more quesions Placing enfasis on connected speech and intonation. T elecit from students the rising intonation at the end of each question.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

SB P. 25 10.A CP to be done before pronounciation. Screenshare Google jamboard frame 3 to be completed by selecting the correct option for each question. Demo task and share link to Ss. Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Screenshare activity on goodle slide. Do demo share link and give students 3 minutes to make quesitons individually. Send Ss to BORs to discuss the questions in group and find out who has similar activity as they do. T monitor, help if necessary, take note.
