Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of second conditional.

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of second conditional

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

In this stage we will have a whole class discussion and I will start by showing the students a picture who are in a waiting room to apply for a job. Give little information about the applicants and how they have few chances to be accepted. Ask them what do you think they are thinking of in this moment? Give them a model for what some of the applicant thinks. Ask to predict the applicants' thoughts.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

In this stage, I will give the Ss a reading text and ak them to read for 2-3 minutes. While reading I will give the two questions to think about. After they finish I will send them into BORs for 3 minutes. Then, we will discuss their answers together in a whole class.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will ask them to look at the text again and and I will highlight sentence from the text and ask them to do the same. After they finish, I will try to elicit answers form them by asking 'what is common between these sentences?'

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

In this stage Ss have identified the TL and now I will label each slide of the presentation with their names and ask them to answer the questions that should cover their understanding of meaning; they will be given 2 minutes to do this task. The questions; If I had to live my life all over again, I'd dare make more mistakes next time. Is it possible to relive your life again? no it isn't Did he make many mistakes in the past? yes he did Can he fix the past mistakes? no he can't If I had to do it over again, I'd have moments with my grandparents. Will he be able to have memories with his grandparents ? no he won't why they might be dead. Is it likely to live his life again? no it is impossible. If I could live my life all over again, I would travel with my children instead of working all day. It is likely relive his life again ? no it isn't Can he travel with his children? no he can't Why because they are no more children. We will discuss the answers together as a whole class after they finish. For the form, I will give them GF to check their understanding for 2 minutes. After the finish I will ask them to discuss their answers using the chat box for 2 minutes. Finally, we will check answers together as a whole class. For pronunciation; I will write the sentences ss highlighted in the text and then I will read the sentences out loud and tell them which part is the stressed one. Ask them to repeat after me .

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

In this stage, I will give the Ss GF and ask them to fill it with the correct words for 2-3 minutes Once the time finishes I will ask them to discuss answers in BORs for 2-3 minutes. We will discuss as a whole class once they finish pairs discussions.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

For free practice stage, I will show Ss the following question on the slides and ask them to take screenshot. Choose one of these superpowers and tell your partner what you would do If you had it. Change the past See the future Disappear I will send them in BORs for 7-8 minutes. After they finish we will have discussions about the answers. Finally i will write their sentences on GD and ask them to grade them and to provide corrections as well.
