In this lesson, students are going to learn how to use first conditional grammar. Then, they will practice this grammar.

Procedure

Warmer/Exposure (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher describes Murphy's law and talks about his experience about this law. Then, students are asked to say their similar experience.

Highlighting (1-2 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

In this stage, the teacher asks students to underline or highlight "if clause" in the reading section. After that, students are asked how many sentences they have found?

Clarification (3-4 minutes) • To clarify what is "First conditional" and its structure

The teacher writes the structure of grammar on the board. Following that, there will be some examples. Additionally, the students are going to realize the importance of the "comma".

Controlled Practice (2-3 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

In this stage, the students are asked to answer some questions. The teacher does the first one. Then, the teacher and students check the answers together.

Free Practice (3-4 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Finally, students are asked to write at least 4 sentences in which first conditional is used. In two of them if clause should be at the beginning of the sentence. This will help students to learn and practice when to use comma when they write.
