Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will ask Ss to raise their hands to yes and no questions and specific questions below: 1st- Who is meeting virtually with their healthcare provider? (or Who is having doctor's appointments on the computer now?) 2nd- What device (tool) are you using to see your doctor? 3rd- Who is not seeing their doctor virtually? Are you receiving help from the doctor virtually? Okay, thank you for answering these questions. T will share this sentence: "I am meeting with my dermatologist each week. I am using my smartphone to meet with her. She is prescribing a great cream to help with my rash".

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T will inform the Ss that it is good to prepare for a virtual (online) appointment before meeting your doctor. T will say: "I have written down six sentences describing how to successfully prepare to meet your doctor. I will read the sentence first and then have you read the sentence. Please tell me if this sentence makes sense to you". Please tell me how you would correct it? What would sound better? T will then write the correct verb + ing on the sentence strip (one by one). This is a Guided Discovery Activity.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T says, "Tonight we are learning about the Present Progressive Verb Tense. T will show on the whiteboard a timeline of the Present Progressive with NOW being highlighted and future actions. Past<_______x_ |_x_______>Future . NOW T will say, "we use Present Progressive verbs to express a current action, an action in progress, or an unfinished action. The formula we use is Subject + BE + (verb+ing). T will write this formula on the WB. T will then say, "I am going to pass out a note card to each of you that has a verb on it. Please look at the verb and decide where it might go on the timeline". The note card has tape on it. When you are ready, please come up to the WB and place the note card under either "past, NOW, or future. Verb cards include: Logging, writing, finding, decided, prepared, downloading. T-S, S-WB : T will lead students through a discussion of verb placement on the timeline for clarification .

T explains to the Ss that we are going to review the verb tense that refers to something that happens in the present but also keeps the fun going in the future. T will write 4 sentences on the board using the 3x5 notecards (verbs) by putting verbs in sentences (Negative , Affirmative, and Question ). 1. I am logging into my computer now. 2. Are we downloading the app to our smartphones? 3. Aren't we finding a quiet place to meet with the doctor? 4. They are deciding which device to use. T will explain the spelling rules listed in the Grammar Analysis . T will ask students what questions they have?

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T will give Ss the Present Progressive Fill in the blank worksheet. T will ask Ss to pair up with another S and work together to complete the worksheet. T will tell the student they have 5 mins. to complete it. T will set a timer. After timer goes off, T and Ss will go over the worksheet focusing on spelling of the present progressive verbs.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T will have the WC stand up. T will direct Ss to walk around the room and come up with a sentence of what they are doing, wearing, smelling, or hearing now. T will ask Ss, once they have their sentence in mind, to pair up with another student and share. Exs. I am wearing red tennis shoes. I am hearing the air conditioner in the building. I am tasting my toothpaste . :) After 6 mins, T will have WC sit down and ask, "was that easy or challenging?" T will discuss Ss issues for 1-2 mins.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T will lastly give out blank sentence strips and markers for Ss to create and write 2 sentences on their own using an -ing verb correctly. T will ask students to focus on spelling, comprehension, and using the context of preparing for a virtual appointment. T will set timer for 5 mins. and have Ss read aloud their sentences. T will correct if necessary .
