In this lesson students learn to talk about their morning and evening activities such as getting up in the morning, eating breakfast, getting ready, going to bed, etc. They also learn about leisure activities and describe what they do in their free time. They are going to get familiar with some household chores and how to talk about their activities in general using present simple tense.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of simple present tense in the context of talking about our activities in general

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of describing what we do in our daily life


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

At this stage of the lesson, i am going to start a conversion about what everyone usually do in their daily life starting with myself talking about the things i usually do after i get up in the morning then ask students what they do from the morning to the evening.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

In this part, i am going to teach some new vocabularies about different kinds of activities that are provided in the handouts with pictures and practice them by repeating and using them in sentences.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

For this part, i am going to teach present simple tense, using adverbs of frequency, making questions and negative sentences and spelling rules for third person singular verb forms.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

For controlled practice, i prepared an activity with some cards to practice present simple and also some exercises.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

For semi-controlled practice, i prepared some exercises as gap fills, scrambled words, making questions and negative sentences, etc, for all grammar parts that has been taught and a pair work.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

For free practice, i am going to make pairs or groups and give them a topic to make a conversation for it, then i am going to ask them to pick an object and make 3 sentences about it and let the other groups guess what that object is. At the end to review the lesson i am going to give students a handout to look at some photos then ask them what they can say about it without looking at it.
