Description

In this lesson, sts will practice functional language in the context of Asking where places are,i.e. hospital, school,hotel,bank,etc....And they will have freer practice of speaking asking and answering where the places are with simple and easy language that can be basic for them as beginners.They will use prepositions of place they had learned from previous lessons in real dialogues.

Main Aims

  • To provide review of language used for prepositions of place in the context of asking the way in situational dialogues

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of asking where the places are

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1- Revise the phrases of Tugba's lesson through an activity of matching cards with pictures on the board.

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through an activity

1- Making a map on the floor, and start setting the context of getting lost in Istanbul and asking about places. 2- Start a discussion about the map.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

1- Elicit the model of the functional language and write the dialogue on the WB. 2- highlight the important parts of the dialogue (Using 'Where's the, Is it far, yes, no....). 3- Focus on pronunciation, intonation and linking words. 4- Drill chorally and individually. 5- Delete parts of the dialogue to let sts memorize. 6- In two groups A and B, change the role to practice the dialogue asking and answering.

Productive Task(s) (15-18 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

1- Get sts the gap-fill handout. 2- Let them check with their partners. 3- Check as WC and write the answer on WB. 4- Ask them in pairs to make their own dialogue,monitor and check for errors 5- Ask them to practice the dialogue with their partners. 6- Let them change the role. 7- Change partners and let them practice

Feedback and Error Correction (8-9 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

1- In groups A and B, sts of group A get a picture of a place and take a place in the class putting the picture on chest. Sts of group B moves around and ask where these places are. 2- Change the role and monitor to take notes. 3- Do FB and error corrections orally and using the WB if needed
