Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss compare 4 pictures of a young woman and answer the question 'How do the girl’s clothes change her appearance in each picture?'. They can use the words from the box: elegant, casual, heavy, mature, natural, pretty, serious, sophisticated, tall, young. If they do not understand the words, explain it to them through examples and CCQs. For this task they have 2 minutes. CCQs: Mature /məˈtʃʊə(r)/ Is this person sensible and behave as an adult? (Yes) What is the opposite to mature? (immature) Casual /ˈkæʒuəl/ Do you wear casual clothes at work? (No) Pretty /ˈprɪti/ Is this person attractive? (Yes)

Exposure (2-4 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Students listen to the recording and choose the best summary. Students work individually and submit their answers via Google Forms. Before OCFB students check their answers in pairs via private messages. Answer: B

Highlighting (3-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Students listen to the recording again and complete the sentences with the correct form of the adjectives in brackets. They work in Google slides. Students work individually and check their answers via private messages. OCFB (slide with answers). For weaker students prepare PDF with a script. For this task students have 3 minutes. Clarification (12-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Meaning: Ask students to highlight superlatives and comparatives. Ask them MCQs: What form do we use when we compare two things? (Comparative form) What do we talk about the number one thing in a group? (Superlative form) Form: Students use the examples from the previous excessive and complete the table with a rule (guided discovery). Before OCFB check their answers via private messages. Students have 5 minutes to do this exercise. Check the understanding via FCQs: Comparative form The dress makes her look taller than in the other pictures. How many syllables does the word ‘tall’ have? (1) How do we form a comparative form? (We add -er) The glasses make her look much more serious. How many syllables does the word ‘serious’ have? (3) How do we form a comparative form? (We add more) Superlative form Vanessa has got the longest hair. How many syllables does the word ‘long’ have? (1) How do we form a superlative form? (We add the … -est) That tracksuit isn’t the most elegant outfit in the world. How many syllables does the word ‘elegant’ have? (3) How do we form a superlative form? (We add the most) Encourage students to match the beginning of the sentences in A with the endings in B to make sentences. Notice the prepositions use. Ss work individually.
