Main Aims

  • By the end of this lesson the students will have practiced have practised speaking for fluency in the context of ordering food at a cafe.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To revise food vocabularu and practice listening for specific information in the context of "ordering food at a cafe"

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows the ss about her in a fast food restuarnt and ask them if they know the restuarant or not T demonstares the lead-in activity by asking one of the ss " what's your favourite restaurant or cafe?"and listens to the answer T drills the questions no. 1/3/4 to help the ss pronounce them well while talking together T asks the follwoing ICQs ( if they're required) Will you write anything? no Will you talk about no.1 only? no, all the questions T tells them that they have 3 minutes. T starts WC feedback by asking the ss about theri answers or if they found anything in common between them and their partenrs.

Useful Language (10-12 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T shows the ss some pictures of food and a set of cards have the words for these pictures T demonstares the activity by showing the ss the HO of the food pictures and 3 cards (pizza,fruit salad, and oragne juice), asks them about picture no.1 which card will you match it with, and writes the number of th picture on the card T asks the following ICQs: Will you match the pictures and cards alone? yes Will you write the number of the picture on the card? yes T tells the ss that they have 2 minutes to match them T monitors the ss to write down their errors and check if they need any help T asks the ss to check their answer. T starts WC feedback and drills the words or sentences they mispronounced. T starts open pair to demonstrate the speaking activity in exercise 2.b T asks ICQs as follows: Will you ask about picture no.1 only? no, all the pictures Will you say the word only or full sentence? Full senetnce Can you ask extra questions? yes T divides the ss into pairs and tells them that they have baout 8 minutes T monitors the ss while speaking.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T shows the ss the food menu, tells them that this menu is from The Sun cafe and it has different meals, and then asks them to read quickly T elicits from the ss how to ask about the price (How much is ...?), and how to answer T starts open pair to demonstare the speaking activity in exercise 3 with the ss as follows: T asks any of the ss to ask about the price of any meal from the menu, and asks another student to answer. T tells the ss that they will do the samw with each other and find the most expensive meal T asks the following ICQs: Will you write anything? no Will you ask about one meal? no, all of them can you add extra questions? yes T monitors and writes down the ss erros. flexi stage: If there's much time T swaps the ss to work with a different partner. If there's much time; T can play the video and pause after each functional language statment so that the ss drill after the video.

Feedback and Error Correction (3-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T starts WC feedback and listen to the ss answers T writes down the ss errors on the board and asks them to correct them.
