Main Aims

  • Introducing and helping the students practice using phrases to describe physical ailments.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Giving the students practice speaking and listening in the context of complaining about physical ailments.

Procedure

Warm-up / Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set the lesson context and engage the students in the activities.

1 - The teacher will tell the students a real example from his life to have them notice some phrases he uses in his sentences. 2- Then, the teacher will ask the students to try to make some predictions what they are going to learn today having them guess something from his real example.

Exposure (5-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language having the students try to match which words go together in a sentence to increase their talking time.

1- The teacher will put some flash cards on the WB, including the names of some physical ailments and give a piece of paper to each student, including some other words which should be used together in a sentence and then the teacher will have the students guess which words go together in a sentence in pairs and guess any answer they don't know. 2. The teacher will have the students come to the board one by one and match which words go together in a sentence. 3. The teacher will check answers with the class. 4. The teacher will check the students' understanding of words and phrases in Lexis 1 through a matching activity.

Receptive Skills (5-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to enhance the students' reading comprehension through a dialogue part.

1- The teacher will have the students work in pairs and have them read the conservations and the items in the table to decide what is wrong with the person in each conversation. Then, the teacher will have the students write what is wrong with the person in the text. After this, the teacher will check their understanding with the WC.

Productive Skills (5-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to enhance the students' speaking and writing ability having them complete and give suitable pieces of advice to their friends.

1- The teacher will have the students work in pairs and read the conversations again to decide what advice the friend gives. The teacher will have them complete the friend's final sentences with suitable pieces of advice. The teacher will have the students write pieces of advice and have them tell their advice to the WC to enhance their productive skills. 1- If some students finish before the others, the teacher will encourage them to practice the conversations aloud.

Feedback and Error Correction (5-10 minutes) • To provide feedback for the students' production and use of language.

1. When the students finish 1 and 3 activities, the teacher will let them check their answer having them listen to some related records. 2- If they have any difficulty/difficulties in understanding any form, meaning and the other things from the type record, the teacher will have the other students correct their friends' mistakes. 3- The teacher will not distract the students while they are listening to the type record because if the teacher does anything, they may get confused and lose their self confidence.

Extensition Activity (5-10 minutes) • To enhance the students' productive skills having them act a role play.

1- The teacher will tell the students how they will act a role play and the teacher will have them use " physical ailments " that they have just learnt to act their roles. One of the students will be a doctor and the other will be a patient for their roles.
