Description

In this lesson, students will listen twice to a conversation between two people sharing their experiences with taxicabs.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher asks the students to work in groups to answer these questions, in 5 minutes: *What comes to your mind when you hear the word taxi? *Do you think its always safe to take a taxi? ICQs: *Are you going to work individually or in groups? In groups *Are you going to answer the question or complete? Answer the questions *How much time do you have? 5 Minutes

Pre-Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Contextualization: The teacher asks the students to work individually for 4 minutes to answer these questions from their mind. *Do you like taxis? *Have you ever taken a taxi that took the long round way? *Have you ever taken a taxi that had an accident? ICQs: *Are you going to answer from your minds or from the listening script? From their minds *Are you going to work individually or in pairs? Individually * How much time do you have? 4 Minutes Teaching blocking words: 1_to (swerve) show the students picture of a car changed its direction suddenly Teacher asks: *What can you see? An accident *Do you think the car suddenly changed its direction? Yes *Was that its correct way? No Teacher says the definition: To change direction suddenly. CCQs: *Is it to change to change its color? No *Is it to change direction gradually? No *Have you ever changed your direction suddenly on your way? Teacher says the word 3-4 times. Teacher shows the students the word (swerve). E.G~ The driver had to swerve to avoid the cat instead of hitting it. Synonym: veer/ swing Antonym: stay/ turn a side 2_ Fare Say the definition: The money a passenger has to pay in public transportation. CCQs: *Is it money or something else? Its money. *Who pays it, passenger or the driver? The passenger *Does he pay it in his own car? No *How much did you pay for the last time you took a taxi? Teacher says the word 3-4 times. Teacher shows the students the word. (FARE) E.G. I cant take a taxi because I don't have the fare. Synonym: ticket price/ cost

While-Listening (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

Teacher plays the listening script for the first time. Gist Task: Teacher says: Now you have 5 minutes to number incidents 1-5 in order that they talked about them. Work in pairs *The cab driver wanted a tip. *The cab driver scratched another vehicle. *The cab driver nearly caused an accident. *The cab driver got lost. *The cab driver was having an argument on his phone. ICQs How much time do you have? 5 Minutes Are you going to work individually or in pairs? In pairs Are you going to number from your mind? No Main task: Teacher says: Now listen to the recording again. Complete the sentences then answer the questions . Just write brief notes to help you remember and you can write the full sentences later. You have 5 minutes. Work in pairs. 1- The woman says '' I had a similar experience...…..
