Description

In this lesson students will read a text about the parts of a car and how to describe it and they will talk about their dream car.

Materials

Abc handouts
Abc match paragraphs with the correct pictures

Main Aims

  • To provide a reading for gist and detailed reading in the context of Wheels

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice about the parts of a car and also speaking about their dream car

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher asks students 'how did you get here today?'and one of the students say 'I drove'the teacher says'what kind of car did you drive and describe it for me.'If none of the students drove the teacher asks the whole class 'does anybody have a car?'If students say yes the teacher chooses one person and asks 'what kind of car do you have,describe it for me.'If nobody has a car,teacher says 'I came here with metro but I have a car' and describes the car.

Pre-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The teacher draws a car on the white board and explains to students each part of the car has a specific name and teacher asks students to name parts of the car.Teacher writes the names as students gives them if necessary teacher elicits vital parts that students not named.

While-Reading (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading task

Teacher shows students the text hand out and asks students to match the paragraphs to the correct picture.Whole class checks the answers.Teacher uses ccq's to check students understanding

While-Reading (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed task

The students read the text again for detailed reading and teacher tells students to find six words that describes the part of a car.Students work in pairs and the teacher elicits the answers.

Post-Reading (5-7 minutes) • Free practice speaking

The teacher gives students hand out and tells them to discuss about their dream car and students talk with their partner about it.Each student tells the answers about their patner's dream car.
