Main Aims

  • To provide practice of 'going to' and the present continuous for future arrangements in the context of predictions and planned calendar dates.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversations in the context of predictions and arrangements

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T boards image of a crystal ball with a picture of a calendar. T tells Ss about what she is doing/going to do next week. Models sample sentences from ‘lead-in’ asking students to circle if the future plan is a prediction or a set arrangement.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • highlight useful words and phrases

Language Analysis (3-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form To check understanding of 'going to' and present con.

Task (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills in the context of 'going to'

students utilize new vocabulary and ‘practice going to’ matching various images of predictions with going to the teacher then checks understanding with answers displayed after the task is complete

langauge practice (6-8 minutes) • practice going to in the context of fluency

students practice role-play of being a fortune teller, predicting their partner’s future utilizing going to and the target language

task (6-8 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills in the context of 'present con. future'

students are given an image of Jane’s a calendar with various images representing appointments. students are to fill in the blank of what is doing next week. teacher then boards answers to check understanding

Language Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language

students are tasked to talk about what they are doing next week, and how the weather is going to be. Ss utilize both present con. and 'going to' in the context of speaking

delayed error feedback • to correct mistakes

teacher boards mistakes with either vocabulary, pronunciation or grammar heard in groups and checks understanding as a class.
