Subsidiary Aims

  • To help students practice speaking and forming questions in the context of future plans.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- 5 mins - Setting context: Discussion around New Year's activities - parties, fireworks, resolutions - Students to be directed towards the activity of setting resolutions/goals (eg losing weight; quitting smoking etc)

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

- 10 mins - As a group and in turns, students to complete the matching activity (ex.2a, p.88 of the coursebook Face 2 Face Elementary) - Go through answers on following slide, ensure all understand - Students to be presented with an audio file (CD3-27), followed by a fill-the-gap exercise containing the TL (I'm going to...; we're going to...). - Listen to the audio one time, and then again prior to commencing the task (noting the first completed example when it is mentioned in the audio) - Students to complete the task individually (via Google Forms) then go to BOR and discuss answers with partner(s). Brief group discussion afterwards.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

- 10 mins - Once students have correctly identified the TL, go over MFP as they relate to decisions about future actions. 1) Resolution (ie Do you have any New Year's resolutions?) 2) I'm going to.../I'm not going to... 3) I will... 4) I'll try to... - Refer to TP8 TLAS for further explanations on the above
