Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about interviewing a famous films star

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and review of words in the context of making films.
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in interviews in the context of famous films stars.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The students will see a picture of a famous couple making an interview: the teacher will ask the Ss if they can recognize them? yes, the teacher will ask Ss what are the couple doing? making a tv interview. The teacher will ask the ss a question: what they would ask their favorite celebrity? They will be given 2 minutes to discuss this question in groups using the private chat box.

Pre-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The teacher will choose 2-3 challenging words from the text and go thoroughly to use the MFP strategy. In terms of meaning. The Ss will use GS to match the meaning of the highlighted words in the sentences to the correct meaning, then the teacher will ask CCQs such as: Can you speak when you mime? Does my brother love to be a father? no. he doesn't Can the actress read the script? yes she can Did the actress speak in the first scene? no she didn't In terms of form The Ss will check the given sentences and based on the context they will answer the following questions: is fatherhood a verb? not it isn't. Is it a noun? yes' it is Is it countable, no it isn't Is mime a verb in the sentence? no, it isn't Is it a noun? yes,' it is. Is it countable, no it is not Is script a noun? yes it is. Is it an accountable noun? yes, it is. In terms of pronunciation: The teacher will read out the words and ss will categorize them based on their stress paterrn.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (6-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Reading for the gist, the Ss will be given 3 minutes to answer the Jamboard link where they will read the questions and match them with the correct answers. a - 1 b- 5 c- 3 d- 2 e- 4 f- 7 g-6 After that, they will check answers with peers for 2 minutes in the private chat before the OCFB.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (6-7 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Reading for details, the Ss will be given 3-4 minutes to answer a google form questions. The answer: 1- false 2- true 3- false 4- false 5- true 6- false 7-false After submission, they will have 2 minutes to discuss the question via Private chat. They will discuss in OC the answers and reasons.

Post-Reading/Listening (10-15 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The teacher will give Ss 9 minutes to make act out an interview with a famous film star. 1. Do you want to work in film, live theater, or both? And why? 2. Why do you want to be an actor / actress? 3. What types of movies do you want to do in the future and why? Put Ss in BORs. Conduct feedback on the task. Give delayed Error Correction (DEC).
