Description

In this lesson, students learn about some functunal language expressions to use in their conversations talking about what they have in common (such as; me too,that's the same ...etc), what differences they have in general(such as; I am the opposite, Realy I get up at 8 ...etc) and telling other people (such as; we both .., neither of us..,...etc). This happens throughout reading a dialogue between two persons are getting to know each others and they discuss different matters using these expressions. Then students highlight these expressions to extract them and use in their conversations. This is followed by an activity to encourage students to apply these expressions.

Main Aims

  • By the end of this lesson, students will be able to use specific language expressions (such as; me too, neither..,that's the same for me,so/neither do/have I, I am the, we both, I...but. opposite) in their conversations easily to improve their fluency.pp

Subsidiary Aims

  • -By the end of this lesson students will be able to write the expression they learnt to express themselves in a written way.

Procedure

Lead in (5 minutes) • To make sure that students are prepared to the lesson.

-T greets Ss and asks them "how are you today?). -T asks Ss who woke up early this morning? who got his coffe in the morning? -T interacts with Ss's answers with (who else? you, too, oh.. you're the opposite, so both of..etc)

Pre-speaking (5 minutes) • To provide Ss with more ideas and language points to use in their speaking.

-T asks Ss "do you know what's today's session about?" -T says of course all of us have similarities and differences in our lives, this will be today's topic. -T divides Ss into two groups of 4 Ss and gives a conversation between two persons met in a party to read. -T asks the first group to highlight the questions they ask to each others and the other group to highlight the expressions telling similarities and differences. -T monitors and guides Ss to highlight the appropriate answers. -T writes the expressions on the white board in a table of three columns, one for expressing things in common, one for expressing differences and one for talking to others.

While-speaking (15 minutes) • To create a challenge and passion for speaking.

Activity 1: -T shows Ss a chart and asks them to discuss in pairs what they get in common and what differences they have choosing different elements from the given chart. -Ss start interviewing their peers one asking and the other answering and they change the roles. (10 minutes) -T asks Ss to take notes about their peers. -T monitors and encourages Ss to speak English to win the amazing English Speaker badge.

Speaking Activity 2 (12 minutes)

-Ss tell the whole class what the got in common and what differences they have with their peers( each S takes 1 minute and half to talk about his peer). -T noticing to check which pairs have the most/least in common. T announces what she noticed to creat fun spirit in the class.

Post-Speaking (follow up) activity. (8 minutes)

- Each S writes a paragraph about his/her partner not including the name. (4 minutes) -T gives the paragraphs to other Ss to read and asks them to guess whose this information. -T gives feedback to Ss and praises their good performance and ends the session (4 minutes)
