In this lesson students learn about the importance of apologizing and how to do so. the lesson starts with a discussion about how easy to say sorry about something.

Main Aims

  • The students know the importance of apologizing, how to say I'm sorry and when to do so.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Students can guess the meaning of blocking words.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will play a video about apologizing . Ask the students to work in pairs to find out who is the wrong in 2 minutes . ICQs: Are you going to work individually or in pairs? Are you going to find out the person or the action? How many minutes do you have ?

Pre-Reading/ (15-20 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Prediction: The students have 2 minutes to look at the picture of the lesson to guess the topic, individually. ICQs: Are you going to work individually or in pairs? Are you going to read the topic? What are you going to look at? contextualization: Say : Think of a time you apologized to someone. Ask: how did you do it ? Ask them to work in pairs for 3 minutes , without writing, to know what advice do they have for someone making an apology. ICQs: Are you going to work individually or in pairs? Are you going to write or just discuss? How much time do you have? Teaching vocabulary: 1- (colleague) Show the students a picture of colleagues. Ask : What can you see ? What are they doing ? Why are they there ? Say the definition : A person with whom one works in a profession or business. A person you work with, especially in a professional job. CCQs: Is he a person you know or not? Where do you meet him? How many colleagues do you have in your class? Say the word ( colleague) 3-4 times . Show them the word and underline the silent letter: Colleague. 2- (promise) Show them a picture of hand promise. Ask : What can you see? What are they doing ? Why are they doing that? Say the definition: A statement that you make to a person in which you say that you will definitely do something or give something. CCQs: When you promise do you have to meet what you said or not ? When was the last time you promised someone ? What was the last promise you did ? Say the word (promise) 3 times. Show them the word: Promise Gist task: Say : Individually you have 2 minutes to answer these questions after skimming the text. (True) or (False) a) It's always easy to say sorry. b) It's never too late to say sorry and set things right. ICQs: How are you going to answer? individually or in pairs? Are you going to read in a detailed way? How much time do you have?

While-Reading/ (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading task.

Main task: Ask the students to read the text in details to make a list of the dos and don'ts the writer mentioned. Ask; How can you maintain good relationships with others? Is saying sorry enough to repair the damage you've done? Why shouldn't we apologize for the same fault over and over? Inference You have 3 minutes to find out the synonym of the following word from the text ,in pairs. uncomfortable .(awkward). ICQs: How many minutes do you have ? Are you going to write synonym or antonym? Are you going to work individually or in pairs?

Post-Reading/ (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Say: You have 5 minutes to write a subheading for each paragraph, work in pairs. ICQs: How many minutes do you have? What are you going to write? Are you going to work in pairs or individually?.
