Materials

?size=16&default=html PPT

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, Ss will have practiced the present continuous in the context of neighbours from hell.

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, Ss will have practiced listening in the context of the present continuous.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will elicit the key vocabulary from the Ss (Neighbours, argue, bark, noise) using visuals and sounds. Then, I will ask them the following questions: Do you have good neighbours? Do you live in a house or a flat? What floor do you live on? Where do you have neighbours? (upstairs, downstairs, next door) Do you have any problems with your neighbours?

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

T will handout the Ss with 2 worksheets to match the sentences with flats. Demo: He's listening to music. Where's the answer? Is it number 1,2, 3,...? It's number 1. After the demo I will tell them you have 2 minutes and then I will ask them to pair check their answers. ICQ: Are you writing long sentences? No.

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

I will ask the Ss to listen and fill in the gaps. Demo: I will play the audio and pause it and ask them to give me the answers. Then I will let them work alone and check in pairs. Language clarification: MPF.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

I will ask the Ss to work in pairs to practice making question and answers with the present continuous based on the pictures from the previous exercise. Demo: I will point to one of the pictures and ask X student: What he's doing? He's watching football.

Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will ask the Ss to describe the 2 pictures and find 8 differences between them. 1. Describe the picture "a" and I will let them talk in pairs. Demo: point out to the picture and ask what he's doing? He's playing music. 2. Find 8 differences between picture "a" and picture "b". Demo: What's the difference between this pic and this pic. In the 1st picture they're watching Tv and in the 2nd they're talking on the phone.
