In this lesson, learners will read a text about surviving in dangerous environments, discuss to give a personal opinion, and distinguish the verbs followed with gerund or infinitive.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of Survival

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask students to imagine spending some time in an environment like this; what dangers you might face? What may go wrong there? Make a list of these dangers. Then compare it with a partner.

Exposure (3-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Read the article and find out what went wrong with two mountain climbers. Individually, students will underline the dangers in the passage in a minute, then, compare their lists in pairs. I will ask students to work individually to fit some introductory phrases in each paragraph. these Phrases are given b the teacher. I will ask students to check their answers in pairs.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will ask students to underline the verbs in the passage that followed whether by infinitive or gerund.

Clarification (2-3 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will clarify the difference between the two types of the verbs.

Controlled Practice (1-2 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students will answer 2 questions related to the target language. Which verbs followed by the two categories of verbs

Semi-Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

students will form the verbs according to the verb before. After they finish individually, they check their answers in pairs.

Free Practice (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students will read some situations individually and think about what may they do in these situations. Students will be put in groups to discuss their opinions
