Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice using the grammar rule of 'used to'/'would' to speak about past habits in the context of former habits/childhood habits.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

show a few pics of the activities you used to do as a child elicit the activities and ask your S to name some other activities, she used to as a child and write it somewhere in that slide.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

go through the word in the first task. let her categorize the words then clarify the meanings of unknown words. go back to your own pics and say sample sentences using 'used to' in order to expose her to the new grammar clarify the meaning of bullying by saying: imaging two children, one of them is more powerful and the other one is less powerful. the powerful one harms or frightens the other one. it's called bullying. ask some CCQs: have you ever been bullied at school? have you ever bullied someone?

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

get back to the beginning slide with sentences in which 'used to' is highlighted in them. read the sentences for her just to expose her to the target language. go through the new vocabs of task 1. make small conversation.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

show her the pics from slide1 again and tell her that when I was a child I used to play with my dolls. *CCQs: -Did I play in the past or present? (past) - Once or many times? (many times) - Do I play football now? (no) use her own hints from warm up stage to help her make some more sentences

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

task2: draw their attention to Max an Zoe's picture . elicit they're talking about their childhood memories. read the Qs and play the audio. ask her to answer afterwards. elicit full sentences and finally practice the conversation. play the second part first she tells you which lines include added information. the elicit the added info. practice the final version of the conversation.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

clarify the meaning of reminiscing. practice the sample q and answers in turn. add some more Qs: what cartoons did you use to watch? did you play in the garden? did you walk to school? what books did you use to read? etc give her a few minutes to write 5-6 Qs to ask me. then ask about each other's childhood. practice the pronunciation part give her some time to personalize the conversation and start the conversation.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

go through the Qs. ask one of the as a sample and take note of extra info.(ask all of them) she does the same afterwards and takes note of your information. partB: use your notes to report about her as a sample and ask her to do the same. WB talk about shyness and the keywords related to that. then ask her to read the fist task and go through the text and answer. do the second one together. assignment: part2: note that she can use "used to" in order to talk about past actions or behaviors that no longer exist and use "I've gotten" in order to say she's better at that now.
