Description

In this lesson the students are going to develop their reading skills in the context of different ways of travelling.They wil read a text about going to Avignon from London.They are also going to improve their speaking skills on the topic of travelling.

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson Ss will better able to read for general information and specific information in the context of different ways of travelling.

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of the lesson Ss will be better able to talk about travel and their journeys.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To involve the Ss to the topic.

Teacher tells the Ss that he will play a short video and he asks them to talk about this video and guess the topic of the lesson. Ss watch the video and talk about it.Then the teacher elicits some guesses.

Pre-reading (3-5 minutes) • To teach the key vocabulary in the reading text.

The teacher tries to elicit the meanings of new vocabulary.He concept checks,models and drills if neccessary.

Reading for Gist (3-5 minutes) • To enable the Ss have a general idea of the txt

The teacher asks Ss to read the introduction of the article and answer the questions.Ss work alone and then peer check. Teacher monitors and then gives feedback.

Reading for detail (8-10 minutes) • To enable Ss to look for specific information in the text.

Teacher asks Ss to read the text carefully and put the paragraphs for plane and train in different orders.Ss work alone and then peer check.Tecaher monitors and gives feedback.

Reading for detail 2 (8-10 minutes) • To enable Ss to look for specific information in the text.

Teacher asks Ss to read the text carefully again and answer the questions by marking T for train and P for plane.Ss work alone and then peer check.The teacher monitors and gives feedback if neccessary.

Freer Practice (8-10 minutes) • To let students personalize the topic.

Teacher writes the patterns on the board as How long does it take to get to the course? It takes 20 minutes to get to the course. Then the teacher models the pattern with a student.Teacher writes some other destinations for students to do practice with each other.Ss work in groups and talk. Then teacher asks some pairs to show what they practised.
