In this lesson, ss will practice speaking and listening in the context of free time activities


Main Aims

  • To introduce and provide practice of the present simple (he,she,it) in the context of free time activity

Subsidiary Aims

  • For ss to have practice on speaking for fluency and accuracy and listening for gist


Language focus (7 minutes) • For ss to understand the meaning, form and pronunciation of the he/she/it forms of the verbs (play,watch) etc.

Ss look at the spelling rules and write the he/she/it forms of the verbs Ss then listen and practice Material: HO ex.6

Gap-filling (7 minutes) • For ss to have controlled practice in using the correct form of the verb

Ss first read the text quickly without filling in the gaps to find out what it is about then do the exercise on their own Ss check answers in pairs T give answer key to the ss Material: HO ex.7. Answer key HO

Listening for practice (5 minutes) • For ss to be able to copy the linking correctly and have practice in saying the linking words. To give ss practice in pronunciation and linking the conneccted speech

T highlight the example on the board to show the linking word and drill T plays the recording, ss listen and practice the consonant-vowel linking Material: HO ex.8

Controlled practice (10 minutes) • To give ss controlled practice in guessing what their partner does/doesn't do making questions in the positive, negative and question forms of TL

Ss choose a partner but don't talk to him/her, then complete the sentences by guessing what the partnenr does/doesn't do by or looking at the free time activity pictures with phrases on the board Ss make questions for each of the completed sentence Material: HO ex.9 free time activity pictures with phrases HO

Freer practice (10 minutes) • This is a speaking practice aimed at giving ss freer practice and confıdence in using the TL to talk about their free time activities

Ss work with their partners, take turns to ask and answer their questions. Ss check if their guesses were correct or not. Ss find out if their partner is very active, quite active or not very active and then tell another ss about their partner. Ss tell about themselves by looking at the picture to tell what activity they do in their free time Material: HO ex.10 free time activity pictures with phrases HO

Feedback (6 minutes) • To make sure ss understand the whole content of the lesson

T gives FB on what ss found out about their partners T praise ss for use of good language and correct errors made by them be it in meaning, form, pronunciation or accuracy by writing out the errors on w/b and elicit the corrections.
