Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students will have been introduced to the meaning, pronunciation and form of the superlatives in the context of family discribation and been given opportunities for controlled written and freer oral practice.

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students will have been developed their oral fluency with specific reference their families description using superlatives

Procedure

Lead in/set context: (5 minutes) • to generate interest in the topic of the lesson and develop oral fluency.

The lead-in is going to be personalized the T is going to speak about themselves and about their family, give SS time to discuss and talk about their own families in pairs.

Present target language (8 minutes) • To present the target language in a context.

T reflects on the SS previous stories about their families and asks them if they want to know more about her family. T presents the (superlatives) in a form of a story about her family members. T describes them using different adjectives. T elicits the target language (using pictures)from the students, one sentence at a time as a way to present the target language in a context.

Language clarification (7 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form, pronunciation of target language.

T checks the meaning using the context (family members) and focuses on pronunciation by modelling, drilling, and highlighting form and aspects of pronunciation on the board – to give students a written record of the target language. Procedure : T so I feel now you know more about my family right?, so what did I say about my brother How did I describe my brother? T CCQs the SS' answers then models and drills and writes on the board. What did I say about my sister, how's everyone described her? T CCQs the SS' answers then models and drills and writes on the board. What about me, what does everyone say about me? T CCQs the SS' answers then models and drills and writes on the board. ok great so what about my family how did I describe them at the end of my story? T CCQ the SS' answers the Model and drill and writes on the board. T highlights the form at the end.

Controlled practice of target language (10 minutes) • To provide students with practice at using target language in a controlled way with a focus on accuracy.

T reflects on the SS work and asks SS to fill a controlled practice using the target language. procedure: T chest the handouts and ask the students to fill the gaps by putting the adjectives between the brackets in the superlatives form. T

Freer practice (10 minutes) • To provide students with practice at using the target language in a freer way with a focus on meaningful communication.

Ss work in pairs to discuss which place they would choose for their holiday. Why? Instructions T regroups the students to work in teams. T asks each team to tell each other about a place they would choose for their holiday. Why? T sets an example and says, I want to go to South Africa because the nature there is beautiful, trees and rivers and people speak English so they can understand me Content feedback: What did you choose as the place your partner would choose for their holiday. Why? Error correction: T write examples of the students’ mistakes on the board and challenge them to correct their own mistakes.
