In this lesson sts will be introduce to present continous tense.

Main Aims

  • To provide sts a clearer explanation on the usage of present continious tense.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide sts ample examples of present continious tense through listenng for gist.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will ask sts the question, ¨What are you doing now, What am I doing¨? Then elicits.

Exposure (5-8 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through group activity.

T will divide the class into groups (depending on the number of sts). Give the group some pictures.Then will tell sts to make a sentences by answering the question, ¨what are they doing¨?.

Useful Language (5-8 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T will now show the table on how to use the present continious tense. Explain the usage of it by giving examples and by asking sts.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T tells the sts that they are going to listen to two neighbours, Keith and Sohie, talk about holidays. T plays the recording. Sts listen and answer the questions. T will check answers with the whole class.

Controlled Practice (5-6 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through listening and repetition.

T will play the recording ans ask sts to repeat. T checks sts if they copy the sentences stress carefully by giving natural model and using finger chuncking.

Feedback and Error Correction (5-7 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T will let sts to focus on the map and itinerary for Sophie and Rob´s cycling tour and give them a minute or two to study it. Sts will work in pairs and write thier sentences about Sophie´s and Rob´s rest of the day, using the information in the itinerary. Check answers with the class.

If time activity (HOT SEAT) (5-6 minutes) • To make use the remaining time.

T place a 'hot seat' in front of the class and facing away from the board, T will choose a student and let him seat on the hot seat. T writes a sentence on the board, the ss in the hot seat can't see it. Whole class will try to mime/demo it to him. When the ss from the hot seat will be able to guess the right answer he will choose a ss to seat on the hot seat then whole will try to demo it again.
