The lesson starts with a speaking activity where students will make up a story with the words written on the board. The vocabulary written on the board are used in the reading passage so it is a pre-reading activity. Some questions will be asked as a pre-reading activity too. After reading their part individually , wh-and critical thinking questions will be asked by their friend in their own group.(Group activity). Eliciting present passive will be done by finding the passive verb and telling the difference between the present verb and participle verb. PPT will be shown with rules and students will show the S+v+O. SS will put the sentence in to passive voice as a group. As the production part SS will write about their inventions.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students with the vocabulary which will be used for while reading

The picture of a man who likes caving will be put on the board and five words related to the reading passage will be put around the picture. SS are expected to make up a story using the words. After the story -speaking activity, pre-reading questions will be asked. (How would life be without Tv-electricİty-phone? Tell them to think of some famous inventors , their inventions and talk about them)

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

After the pre-reading activity, SS will be put in to groups of three and each member of the group will read a story of a different inventor. Different colours will be used for each story so there won't be any confusion about who will read which one. After the interpersonal reading activity, students in each group who has no idea about what and which invention or inventor he/she has read about, will ask the questions in their envelopes. Each member will ask atleast two questions from the envelope. ICQ's will be asked. Is this a group work? Will you be a group of four?

Highlighting (5-8 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

This time scanning will be done .I will ask the meaning of a verb and tell them to highlight or underline the verbs. I will write two sentence on the board and tell them to find them in the reading passage. I will elicit the present passive rules from students and show the rules from the ppt if needed. While showing the rules , I will get the SS to find the difference with an active and passive sentence.

Clarification (1-2 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Clarification will be done if needed.

Controlled activity (5-7 minutes)

Give each student a card with either the passive form or the active form of the sentence. The passive form card will be red colour and the active form will be blue. They will find the related sentences when I tell them to mingle. Once they find the active and the passive form, they will stick the cards on the paper which I hang on the board.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

SS will write about an invention they have created using present passive as much as they can.
