Main Aims

  • To provide practice of speaking for fluency in the context of achievements

Subsidiary Aims

  • To allow Ss to practice their writing skills previous to pair discussions.
  • To introduce useful vocabulary and phrases in the contexts of achievements.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T s Ss two 10 seconds videos. The video is about a girl who likes to practice gymnastics. T shows and after and before. T tells Ss she admires that girl because of her perseverance. T asks Ss if someone knows what perseverance means. T asks Ss to answer the following question. What is your personal definition of success? How do successful people achieve their goals?

Content preparation (6-8 minutes) • To provide a useful ideas for the coming tasks through sharing vocabulary

-T asks Ss to share in the chat some helpful vocabulary. -T shows students some vocabulary and asks Ss to tell one sentence using the following vocabulary. (one sentence each Ss) -Wonderful opportunity -Impressive achievements -Proud of -To Improve -Perseverance -Skills -Set goals -Develop a plan -Overcome obstacles

Language Preparation (5-6 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

-T shares with Ss a matching activity. -T gives 3 minutes to finish the activity. -Ss have to match the columns individually. -T and Ss check the answers together.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

-T shows students the following questions and instructs the next activity. -What is your greatest accomplishment? Why? What did you do to achieve it? -What is your biggest goal for next year? What will you do to achieve it? -Describe someone that you admire (Famous or someone you know). Why? -Ss have 5 minutes to work individually. Ss have to write a draft answering 2 of those questions. -After 5 minutes, the T creates break-out rooms. -T gives students 10 minutes to discuss in pairs -T monitors break-out rooms

Feedback (5-8 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

-T asks some Ss to share with the rest of the class. -T gives some feedback.
