Description

In this lesson, students will learn about vocabulary related to technology, robots in education, and their future importance in the classroom. They will cover vocabulary to speak about situations in which technology and humans are implicated.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about technology in the context of robots in education
  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about elements asked on a text given

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review and clarification of artificial intelligence in the context of giving opinions about AI with friends
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a artificial intelligence discussion in the context of speaking with friends

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss will answer some questions to engage them with the topic and to set the context: - What do you think about technology? - What do you know about robots? - Do you think they are going to help us or replace us?

Pre-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T will present some vocabulary concerning what Ss will read in the text; these are actions or words considered to be only for humans but they have a relation to robots and technology. Cover MFP&A where necessary.

While-Reading (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Detail reading tasks. Ss will read the text and once they finish they will answer some questions individually. Peer feedback to compare and check answers. Once they finish the whole group will share answers and the teacher will provide the correct answers if necessary.

Post-Reading (6-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss will have a conversation in teams of three to discuss what they think about robots and their role in a future society, especially in education. They must use at least three words from the vocabulary seen in the text that was explained before this step.
