Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Lead-in: T. shares the screen and asks a question. What is Quora? Ss answer with different ideas. T. shares a second slide and explains the use of a forum like Quora. T. shares the third slide and asks Ss questions about the use of forums. T. asks Ss to ask their peers. WC.

Exposure (4-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text

Set Task 1: T. shares the fourth slide. T. asks a student to read the instructions. WC. Ss have to work in pairs and answer the 2 questions about StefanĀ“s post. Ss have to read for gist to identify the main ideas in the text. Ss work in breakout rooms. T. monitors. (3 minutes). T. asks for volunteers to share their ideas in class. WCFB.

Highlighting (4-6 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T. shares the fifth slide. Ss have to read and highlight or write down the questions and expressions to give suggestions. Intensive reading. T. models the activity and highlights the first expression. Take my advice. Go to Australia. Ss work in pairs in breakout rooms. Teacher monitors. (4 minutes). T. checks answers. WCFB.

Clarification (10-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Set Task 2: T. shares screen. T. asks a S to read the instructions. In this activity, Ss will read the expressions and questions and match them with a sentence that is closer in meaning. T. models the activity. Ss work in pairs. T. monitors. (4 minutes). T. checks answers. WCFB. Set Task 3: T. shares screen. T. asks a S to read the instructions. T. models the activity. Ss work in pairs. Teacher monitors. (4 minutes) T. checks answers. WCFB. Pronunciation: T. shares screen. T. asks a S to read the first question. T. gives feedback if necessary. T. models falling intonation for WH questions. T. models the correct pronunciation of the expressions. Choral repetition. Back-chain drilling if necessary.

Controlled Practice (5-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T. shares screen. T. asks a S to read the instructions. Ss will complete a conversation using the questions and expressions from the lesson. Ss work in pairs. T. monitors. ( 4 minutes). T. gives WCFB.

Free Practice (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Set Task 5: T. shares screen. T. asks for the meaning of the word: Role play. T. clarifies the idea of Role play. Ss have to act and pretend they are somebody else. ICQs: How many useful expressions and questions do you have to use for this activity? Ss: At least 3. Do you have to switch roles? Ss: yes. T. models the activity with one student. Ss work in pairs. Teacher monitors. (8 minutes). T. asks for volunteers to present the conversation to the class. T. gives WCFB.
