Main Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a postcard in the context of vacations. By the end of the lesson the student will have the grammar and vocabulary knowledge to write a postcard describing a place they visited.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Hello everyone. T shares screen Screen with many postcards. T asks "What do you see?// postcards" >>Do you send postcards? >>Where did you go for your last vacation? >>What did you like about that place? In breakout rooms, S discuss these questions (1 min.) Let's get some practice writing postcards: T shares screen T says "this is the front" Instructions: read for one minute, to get a general understanding. Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Parts: A postcard has clear parts Look at the postcard. Instructions: Help me match the name of the part. //Match names with parts// Ask: Greetings: The first thing we say: How do we start: //Dear, I'm writing: Is this sentence in past present or future?// present >>>>Is it something I'm doing at the moment? // YES. >>>> Ask about form: subject + to be + ing. >>>>Postcards describe actions at the moment Is a postcard descriptive? //YES Ask what is it describing: It is very hot and sunny// The weather of a place We use it to describe places. Look at the postcard and find more adjectives, elicit adjectives. Elicit more adjectives of place //brainstorm adjectives. I visited the famous trajineras: What does a postcard talk about? It talks about the places you went to, and the things you did. How do we end the postcard? // with a phrase like I miss you Elicit endings Is the postcard formal or informal?// informal or neutral.

Productive Task(s) (12-17 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T assigns each student a slide number, she sends the link to the chat. T writes the name of the student on the slide. Write your postcard. You have 12 mins. Instructions: write about a place you visited, and things you did, about your favorite vacations. Is the postcard about the future?//NO // use present and past. Is the postcard about your vacation? //YES T Ask questions like: Who are you writing to? I'll be here if you need me... I'll be checking what you are writing ... After 12 mins, T asks are you finished? // yes -> Continue // no -> 3 more mins
