Description

In this lesson, students read about AR in education. Before they start reading, the T asks them if they liked chemistry classes at high school and shows them a short video. They continue discussing AR in education. Before they start main reading activity, T pre-teacher unfamiliar words through a game - wordwall. For the main activities, they match the information with the paragraphs and complete a table. For the follow-up activity, ss work in groups and find different AR ideas for language classes.

  • To enable students brainstorm and share ideas about future applications of AR in language classes.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T asks students if they liked chemistry at high school or not and she asks sb who didn't like it the reasons why he/she didn't enjoy chemistry classes. Then she shows a video in which AR is used in a chemistry class. This time she asks "Would you like such a chemistry class? Yes, because... / No, because...." but this time they write their answers on mentimeter. T also asks another question on mentimeter: "Do you think there could be some disadvantages of AR in education?". They write their answers again on mentimeter.

Pre-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T puts ss in pairs and they gives them a study-sheet which includes the definitions of the target words and sample sentences for each word. First, ss study the words in 5 mins and then they play the game in groups on wordwall.

While-Reading #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

Ss read the text individually and match the main ideas to the correct paragraphs. They firstly check answers in pairs then whole class check is done. T reflects the book on the screen and ss come and write answers on the board (only numbers).

While-Reading #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

T divides the class into 4 groups. Each group focuses on one idea in the text. They need to read the whole text to find a support for their specific idea. After they are done, they share what they have found with the others.

Post-Reading (5-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss continue working in the same groups. The T asks ss to find creative ideas for the future applications of AR in language classes. If they cannot come up with ideas, they can get inspiration by checking google. They have 5 mins to discuss and then they share their ideas with the whole class.
