To provide product writing practice of a story in the context of creative writing
Procedure (77-90 minutes)
We have a coversation about stıories. Teacher asks "What type of stories do you enjoy the most and why?" and "Do you like telling stories, listening to stories or watching stories?"
We look at the pictures and discuss what the listening might be about. Teacher tells or doesn't tell the students what the listening is going to be about depending on the answers given by students.
Ss listen for gist and put the pictures in the correct order they are mentioned in the listening.
Befoe the second listening teacher draws Ss attention to the Reporting Verbs section and gives a short explanation. Then Ss listen again and answer the Reporting Verbs questions in pairs.
We discuss what makes a good story. As a post-reading and writing exercise, Ss write stories in groups of three. We use the Story Dice website for this section. Teacher encourages Ss to use reporting verbs such reminded, explained, whispered, agreed, warned etc.
