Description

In this lesson Ss review how to talk about times and prices they learnt in the previous lessons with the help of an acitivity at the beginning of the lesson. Then they do free practice by role playing at the final stage of the lesson.

Main Aims

  • To teach and provide clarification of meanings of time words and price words ( vocabulary)

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5 minutes) • To set a context for the lesson and to check whether Ss can tell about the times and prices

T tells Ss what time his/her class starts and finishes and how much she pays for the fare to come to the course. Ss work in pairs and learn what time their partner's class starts and finishes and how much he/she pays for the fare to come to the course. FB- T asks Ss what time their partner's class starts and finishes and how much he/she pay for the fare to come to the course

Vocabulary Focus (15 minutes) • To practice Ss saying some different times and prices in different currencies

T checks Ss can pronounce these currencies correctly: dollars, cents, euros, pounds,p. T writes the symbols of them and ask Ss to say and repeat them. I:Repeat after me. T gets Ss to practice saying some different times and prices with the help of the activity in Ts Bk on p. 141. T demonstrate the activity with the help of 3 Ss. I: 3 volunteer Ss, please. You're Sa, You are Sb, You are Sc. Sa starts. Say the time/ price in your 'say' column. Whos has the same time in the 'Hear' column? Sc has it. Cross it. Say the time/price next to it in your 'Say' column. Cross it. ICQs: Are you Sa,Sb,Sc? Who starts? Do you say the prices in 'say' column or ' hear' column? You hear it. what will you do? T puts the Ss into groups of three. T does not group the Ss sitting next to each other I: Work in 3s. Hear, Cross, Say next to it. T gives a copy of the student A worksheet to one student in each group, a copy of the student B worksheet to the second student, and a copy of the student C worksheet to the third student. *1.anticipated problem Ss continue until they reach 'finish' T monitors the Ss and takes notes of their mistakes for the FB session at the of this acitivity. Ss have their seats after the acitvity is over. T writes the mistakes of the Ss done during the activity on the w/b and asks them whether they are right or wrong and asks Ss to correct them. I: Is it true? come and correct it, please.

Speaking (25 minutes) • To practice Ss in asking and answering about prices and times

T divides the Ss into two groups , student As and student Bs. T does not group the Ss sitting next to each other into the same group. Ss get in two lines. Students As are in front of the w/b and Bs face them T writes'TICKET BOX' on the w/b in order to show that Ss standing in front of the board are ticket sellers. T hands out the copies of the page 113 ( ex.a) to the student As, and the copies of the page 105 (ex.a) to the student Bs. Student Bs are given cards to write the price down they will pay, something like money. Ss are given time to read their roles I: Student As are ticket sellers. Students Bs are customers. Bs, Buy two tickets for one of these films. Ask about the time and price of the film. Write the time and price. Pay for it. T demonstrates the role play with one of the volunteer Ss. ICQs: Student As, who are you? Student Bs, who are you? Are you buying/selling a ticket? T monitors and takes notes of Ss' mistakes T does some general FB by asking customers which film they bought tickets for and by asking ticket sellers how much they earned. Ss change their roles. Bs are ticket sellers. As are customers. T hands out the copies of the page 113 (ex.b) to the student As and the copies of the page 105 (ex. b) to the student B. Ss role play the conversatşon again. I: Change the roles. Bs are ticket sellers. As are customers. Buy two tickets for one of these films and pay for them. T monitors and takes notes of Ss' mistakes. T does some general FB by asking customers which film they bought tickets for and by asking ticket sellers how much they earned. This role play may go on by changing the roles of the Ss until they learn how to ask and answer abour times and prices. T writes the mistakes of the Ss on the w/b and asks Ss to correct them. * anticipated solution: Ss work on thier own. T hands out cards to be filled out to the Ss. Ss are at the airport now. They prepare tickets on which the countires they are going, the price and time of the flight are written. Then each student may give information on the ticket about his/her flight to the whole class.
