Main Aims

  • To read and understand main ideas and details in a popular science blog about augmented reality.
  • To identify and evaluate speculations in an article about augmented reality

Subsidiary Aims

  • Give opinions and speculate about the possibilities of AR technology

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The T uses a powerpoint with some warm-up questions and a short video. Ss work in pairs and find different areas that AR is used.

Pre-Reading (5-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and help them to understand key vocabulary for augmented reality

T puts ss in pairs and they do the definition - sample sentence matching activity. When they are done, the T shows the Qs on the board and students take a marker, write the answers. They do whole class check.

While-Reading 1 (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

Students read the text individually and find the best main idea of the text. The T gives them 5 mins to read and have a general understanding of the text. While they are reading, T distributes small papers to everyone. When the time finishes, everyone writes their answer (A-B-C) on their papers and raise them up.

While-Reading 2 (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

T asks ss to read the text again and this time they need to find and correct 6 incorrect facts in the summary of the text. Firstly they do individually and then they compare answers with their partners. Then whole class check is done on the board.

Post-Reading (5-7 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T puts ss in groups and shows Qs on the board. T tells them that they will start discussing the question as they hear the music and stop talking when the music stops. Then one person from groups briefly summarizes what they have discussed in their groups.
