Main Aims

  • To provide product and process writing practice of a essay in the context of making argument

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about making argument

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T asks Ss in pairs to look at the photos and think about what is happening in each one

Exposure (2-6 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Ss look at the statement, then in pairs, Ss make a list of arguments for and against the statement

Useful Language (10-15 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

1- Ss do ex 2 read an essay and then check if it includes any of their ideas. ( REMINDING Ss why we have to read). 2- Ss do ex 3 read the essay again to write a title or short description for each.( REMINDING Ss why we have to read). 3- Ss do number 4, check in pairs and provide the answer keys.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

1- Ss work in pairs, Ss read the task and plan an essay ( Ss organize their ideas into paragraphs). 2- Explaining the task clearly and as CCQs about the task. * Are we going to write individually ? Yes *Are we going to write about mobile phones ? NO computers

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T collects the papers from Ss and then write down the mistakes on the board if found. Ss correct errors
