Main Aims

Procedure

Listening (10-20 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show the pictures and elicit from the class. 1A 1B: Listen, elicit, and show answer key. 1C: Listen, work in pairs, and show answer key.

Useful Language (10-20 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

2A: Work in pairs, show answer key. 2C: Ss come up with new sentences in pairs, for example: I feel sick. 2D: Ss practice in pairs and then as a group, to talk about their feelings.

Conversation Skills (10-20 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

3A: Ss work in pairs, check with answer key. 3B: Elicit answers and write on the board. 3C: Listen, work in pairs, answer as a class. 3D: Demo with a stronger student, then make them talk in pairs about how they feel.

Pronunciation and Speaking (10-20 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

3A: Listen and elicit answers from the class. 3B: Ss discuss in pairs. 5A/5B: Ss discuss in pairs, and then switch roles.

Speaking and Listening (10-20 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

1A: Ss discuss in pairs and then elicit from the class. 1B: Ss read and answer alone, then elicit from the class. 1C: Listen, answer, and check answer key. 1D: Listen again, and match from top to bottom in pairs. 1E: Work alone and discuss in pairs. 1F: Discuss with each other. Potential questions: Was it expensive? Do you like it? Where did you find this? What do you think about it? Is it fun?

Reading (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Writing Skills (10-20 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

3A: Elicit what however means from the class. 3B: Ss look for however in the text a few times. 3C: Work in pairs and show answer key. 3D: Elicit from ss. 4A and B: Ss write about their own activities, such as playing games, dancing, chess, football, shopping. Specify using adverbs of manner: "badly" "clearly" "lightly" "occasionally" 4C: Ss share with each other.
