Description

In this lesson students will be reminded how to introduce themselves. And then through listening to a conversation, they will learn how to use some expressions in daily life. Then we will move on to the grammar and by using a recording and some controlled practice, Ss will learn how to use simple present (be) and how to sound natural. Then they will learn a new set of vocabulary about countries and nationalities.

Procedure

Ice breaker (5-7 minutes) • Getting to know the Ss

Use a ball and after introducing yourself, throw the ball to another S and ask them to introduce themselves shortly and the game goes on.

Lead-in (6-7 minutes) • Attract Ss attention to the main topic

Ask Ss to complete task 1A individually. Then check in pairs. Then one of them reads it out loud. Check the pronunciation. Then pair Ss up and ask them to practice 1A. Then to a whole class activity as explained in 1C.

Pre-teach Listening (8-10 minutes) • Grab Ss attention to the grammar

Ask Ss how many people are in the photos. And who are they. Teach Ss the new words in exercise 2B. Listen to the recording and do 2A. Then check. Then play the recording again and do 2B. Then check in pairs. Ss do 2C based on what they have already heard. Check and teach.

Useful Language (15-20 minutes) • To teach Ss the grammar

Elicit the grammar. Write it on the board. Then ask Ss to listen and complete 3A. Check in pairs and then tell them to check their answers on page 128. Do practice 1.1A,B and check in pairs. Then complete the conversation on page 8, Ex. 3B. Then Ss do a whole class activity to practice the usage of what they’ve learnt.

Vocabulary (30-35 minutes) • Ss learn about countries and nationalities

Ss go to the photo bank on page 152. Elicit the nationalities and teach them if needed. Write countries and nationalities on the board and highlight the ending of nationalities. Then ask Ss to complete 4A. Check the activity. Ask Ss to add their country and nationality to the table. Ss listen to a recording and learns where to put the stress of each word. Then the words will be drilled. And after that they will play a game. In pairs one student tells the other a country and the other must point out the nationality. And vice versa. Then Ss will do activities on page 152. After that Ss do a quiz about countries.
