Beginner level


In this lesson first the students will learn some vocabularies through the concept of the places in a town then they will focus on a text related to the places in a town. Students will practice the new vocabularies with matching activities and they will practise reading first with pair discussion and then True False activity. In post reading part they will have free speaking discussion about the topic

Warmer -Lead in (5-8 minutes) • to engage students

T sticks the pictures of Istanbul all around the class and tells students stand up and with your partner make an Istanbul tour then t asks a question which places do you see in Istanbul ?discuss with your partner (3 minutes)

pre-teaching (5-8 minutes) • To introduce the vocabularies related to the context.

T writes the students' answers about the places they can see in İstanbul and then asks them to stand up again and look if they can see these places around the classroom stick them next to the names of the places.Then they will repeat the vocabularies with the teacher. After this introduction t tells them these are the places in my home town ,'What is hometown ? she tries to tell the meaning of hometown. (gives an example sentence I live in İstanbul so İstanbul is my hometown )

while teaching (15-18 minutes) • to practice the new vocabulary reading for gist and detailed information

She will give the ss a hand out. There is a matching activity on it . They will match the places they have learnt with the names of them and they will do peer checking.Then t shows a Picture ' a famous city in England , Bath ' Look at this Picture with your partner and discuss what kind of places can you see here? Then they answer as a whole class. Then t shows the students the reading text and asks them to read it once and think about the question ,discuss with their partners.This is reading for the general idea. The answer will be discussed as a whole class then the teacher asks read the text one more time and do the True False activity ,if it's false they will correct it, this is reading for detailes.

post teaching (5-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T asks the students which places do they prefer to go in İstanbul? First they will discuss with the groups and then it will be a whole class discussion
