Main Aims

  • To provide students with Grammar Practice using Gerunds and Infinitives in context of a text about a farmer

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide ss with speaking and reading practice

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher will show the students a PPT , there are going to be two pictures and two questions, the students will need to do some brainstorm with the teacher. QUESTIONS: -Would you like to live in a farm? -What do you think are the advantages and disadvantages about living in a farm?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

The teacher will share the link to a Google forms activity, there the students will be able to see a text , They will need to read it without looking for too much detail (2mins) Then the students will have to answer a question choosing the correct summary for the text. Which summary fits best the text? a-The story of two friends trying to catch a fox b-The story of two lovers trying to catch a fox c-The story of a Farmer and a fox. (1 minute)

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

The teacher will tell the students to look at some sentences in the ppt, and find all the words with -ing, and all the words with to-, (breakout rooms) (4 minutes) 1-He couldn’t help falling in love with her (falling) 2-He tried to borrow one from his neighbors (tried to) 3-But he didn’t have any identification so he couldn’t buy one(none) 4-So Jane went to the shop and bought a gun(none) 5-They tried to increase their profits by buying some chickens (tried to) 6-Farmer Jones decided to build a fence(to build) 7-So they went to the local zoo to try to buy some tiger dung.(to buy) 8-That night she tried to stop the fox. (tried to stop) 9-Tried leaving other food for the fox but nothing worked (leaving) 10-Soon they had only one chicken left. (none)

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

-The teacher will tell the students to look at some questions and discuss them in breakout rooms.( 8 minutes) 1-Do you think that falling in love is a choice or something you can’t control? 2-Describe the last time you tried to do something but failed 3-Do you think that borrowing things from people is a good idea? 4-What's the habit thet you can't help doing?
