Teaching practice No. 6 - Grammar {Adjective order}
Upper intermediate B2 level

Description

In this lesson the students will learn about adjective order (where do adjectives come in sentences) through speaking and writing (grammar) activities. The lead-in will get the students think about the topic. I will write three sentences about Carta Marina on the white board and will try the elicit the topic from the students. 1. One of the most fantastic ancient maps still in existence. 2. Carta Marina is especially famous for the fantastic colourful sea monsters and the tiny intricate details depicted on it. 3. The map is remarkable for its small painstaking detail.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice in Grammar the context of Adjectives order

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide speaking and writing practice of description of adjectives and Adjectives order looking at the Carta Marina map.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-9 minutes) • To set lesson context and get Ss thinking about adjectives and adjective order

Teacher

Pre-Grammar (6-8 minutes) • Grammar preparation

Ss work in pairs and try to formulate a rule about the order of two kinds of adjectives (exercise no. 1, page 37). T monitor Ss and give them answer key HO, Ss check their rules with the ones on the Answer key HO.

While Grammar (5-9 minutes) • Practice Grammar in the context of Adjectives and adjective order

Teacher divide Ss to pairs. Students focus on exercise no. 2 from the course book and try to put the words in the correct order according to the rules that we learned. In order to help where needed, teacher guide them by asking Ss to read throgh and underline the nouns. They should then write the other words to the left of the noun in the correct order. Ss will check their answers by looking at the Answer keys hanging on the room class walls.

Post Grammar-speaking and writing (10-12 minutes) • Practice writing testing visual awareness and checking correct grammar in the context of adjective order

Teacher divide Ss to group of 3 using adjective names. Teacher shows the students a map in color using a projector. Ss discuss with their group members and write as many adjectives as they can to describe it. take turn in making sentences to build up a description of the map. Teacher circulates and monitor and when finished Ss are invited to write their some of their answers on the WB.

Post Grammar-reading and writing (5-7 minutes) • To Practice Adjective order by completing the phrases.

Focus on Exercise Grammar 2A Adjective order, page 16 on Global workbook. Ss will try to do this task alone or in pairs . Teacher will circulate and monitor and then feedback in open class.
