Main Aims

  • To provide gist listening practice using a text about My personal experience in the context of sports

Procedure

Lead in (3-5 minutes) • To get students engaged with the topic by asking them a question.

For this stage the teacher will introduce the topic of liking and disliking sports in this case, the students will have time to interact with the question. The teacher will ask the students to answer the question given and discuss it.

Gist (5-7 minutes) • To provide the students with a personal story regarding the topic.

The teacher will tell a personal story about an experience involving sports, and liking and disliking the topic, after telling the story the teacher will ask a question related to

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for students to feel more comfortable for the following activity.

For this stage of the class, the teacher will do the MFP portion. Meaning, and pronunciation in this case, being that form isn't really necessary. To do this the teacher will explain the useful language and encourage the students to use the phrases given. While doing this the teacher will introduce the pronunciation of difficult words or the phrase in general. The teacher will ask the stress that is put in each phrase to make sure that the students understand the proper use.

Productive Task(s) (10-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice using the useful language, in the form of telling personal stories.

For this portion of the class to be a success, the teacher will give the students a sufficient amount of time to tell their stories while taking into account their level and fluency with the useful language. As the students are doing this in their breakout rooms the teacher will be popping in and out of each room and after 5-7 mins the teacher will switch the students around for them to practice twice.

Feedback and Error Correction (5-8 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' use of the language.

To finalize the class the teacher will clarify and questions and doubts. While doing this the teacher will use a number of phrases the students said, some correct and some incorrect that way the students will see and recognize their mistakes but at the same time their success in the lesson.
