Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of interesting experiences.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist listening practice using a text about experiences in the context of traveling
  • To provide practice of language used for sounding interesting when telling stories.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows a picture of different life experiences and ask the following questions: - Have you experienced any of these activities? - Which one would you like to try? T demonstrate the task Ss express their ideas openly T conducts OCFB

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

T gives students two questions to be answered while watching a video about life experiences: What was his experience about? Did he enjoy the trip? Why? ICQs What are you going to do? WATCH A VIDEO Do you have to answer anything? YES, TWO QUESTIONS T shows Ss a video of a person talking about one of his best experiences T conducts OCFB

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T provides a list of five useful expressions they can use when telling a story and talking about his/her experiences, ask Ss in which part of a story they could use them? Example--> I'll never forget the time I was... When can you use this expression? AT THE BEGINING. T clarifies pronunciation and intonation. Model and drill individually and chorally.

Productive Task(s) (15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T ask the students to work in groups and talk about the following aspects (7 minutes): - What’s the best/ worst experience you have ever had? Exchange Ss when 7 minutes have passed and ask them to start the activity again with the new group (7 minutes) ICQs Do you have to work individually? NO How much time do you have? 7 MINUTES WITH EACH GROUP

Feedback and Error Correction (10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T conducts OCFB about the speaking activity and reacts to the Ss ideas T conducts feedback on good use of the language and corrects some mistakes.
