Main Aims

  • To provide practice of passive forms in the context of science fiction

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about films in the context of science fiction

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask students to talk about the following question and give an example to help them come up with ideas. What do you think will change in the future?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will ask students to read an article from the coursebook and identify the target language (passive forms with "have" and "get"). They will later tell me which passive sentences they were able to identify and I will write them on the board.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will ask students to complete a guided discovery task in Google Forms to cover meaning and form of target language and later, I will clarify pronunciation with a teacher-led activity.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students will look at some pictures from the coursebook and describe what they see using passive or active voice, depending on the situation.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will ask students to discuss the following questions in pairs using the target language from this lesson. Which of the futuristic abilities mentioned at the beginning of the lesson would you like to have? Why? After each task I will conduct feedback and at the end delayed error correction.
