Description

In this lesson sts are going to listen to some urban legends. Berivan will follow on from me to look at the grammar used in the urban legends.

Materials

Abc Pictures
Abc Handouts
Abc CD and CD player

Main Aims

  • Listening. To give sts practice on listening for gist and specific information in the context of urban legends.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To give sts practice in speaking for fluency.

Procedure

1. Pre-Listening (13-15 minutes) • To get the sts ready for the subject of the lesson of the day.

*A lead-in to the subject by mentioning about famous urban legends in Turkey. *Discuss the meaning of 'urban legend' with sts. *Sts read the exercise 2, discuss the answers in pairs. *Check the answers with the class. *Stick the 3 enlarged pictures on walls , sts walk around, discuss what they're seeing in pairs. *Write keywords from the stories. *Sts guess which word belong to which picture. *Clarify any words sts don's understand. *Sts predict what each story is about using the key words and pictures in pairs. *Ask their predictions, discuss with them.

2. While Listening (18-20 minutes) • Developing sts listening skills for gist and specific information.

*Play the CD, stop after the first story, sts discuss what they understood and compare the real story with their predictions in pairs. *Repeat the process for the next 2 stories. *Sts read Ex 2., play the recording, sts listen and fill in the gaps, compare their answers in pairs. *Check sts answers.

3. Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • Checking sts if they understood the subject

*Sts discuss their opinions about whether the stories are true in pairs. *Check sts ideas. *Tell the facts about the stories. *Ask sts if they know any urban legends.
