Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask my students to agree/ disagree about statements regarding Cameron's life. Students will discuss the statements in pairs in the breakout rooms. I will then conduct OCFB. (Slide 1)

Exposure (6-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a biographical article

Students will be introduced to the past simple wh question form. Students will answer questions about the article individually and then they will double check their answers in pairs in the breakout rooms. OCFB will follow. (Slide 2)

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Students will be presented with images that depict verbs. I will incite them to guess what the verbs are, through CCQs and synonyms. Students will associate meaning to the verbs. Students will then infer form and pronunciation from the examples and drilling. (Slide 3) Students will also be introduced to past simple wh questions. Using the previously presented verbs, wh questions are going to be created. Students will infer the form of the wh questions by subdividing them into the grammar constituents. Students will be given time to come up with the set of questions in break out rooms. (Slide 4) I will then conduct OCFB

Controlled practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students will be asked to unjumble words into the correct order. Students will arrange the words into wh questions. Students will be given time to do it in pairs in the break out rooms. Once in the main room, I will carry out OCFB and I will play an audio for them to listen to the pronunciation of the questions. (Slide 5) Students will be given a text for them to fill in with past simple verbs. Students will work on it in pairs in break out rooms. During OCFB, I will elicit answers from the students for wh questions based on the text. The purpose is to reinforce the past simple verbs as well as the way wh questions are answered. (Slide 6)

Free Practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In break out rooms, students will play rock, paper, scissors in order to ask wh- questions to each other. The one that asks the most, wins. Students will read a set a set of questions provided to them and they will answer each other in past tense. (Slide 7) OCFB will be conducted and the teacher will play with the student that won.

Feedback (3-5 minutes) • To provide learners with feedback on the completion of the task and language

Students will correct a set of wh- questions in breakout rooms. Students will reinforce the grammar learnt through the lesson. (Slide 8) I will then conduct OCFB and work our the right answer with the group.
