Main Aims

  • To introduce and practice words related to types of films in the context of film types you like & don’t like.
  • To provide clarification and practice for the words related to types of film. Especially for words Sci-fi, rom-com, western, and thriller.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy and fluency when Ss are describing the types of film.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1) I am going to ask the following 2 questions to engage the Ss. a. How often do you watch film? Online or at the cinema? b. What platform do you use to watch film online? Netflix? Disney+? Why?

Test #1 (5-7 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

2) I created a categorized task to diagnose on Ss knowledge of types of film. I am using HO1 and Ss will work individually first to write down their answers first. 3) - BORs. I will put Ss to BORs to discussion with their partners.

Teach (10-12 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage as well as teaching the rest of the vocabularies.

4) Cover Meaning, Form, and Pronunciation of the TL. I made PPT for all 12 words but 4 of the following are my target words. Rom-com, sci-fi, thriller, and western.

Test #2 Control Practice (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

5) I am giving out HO2 for Ss to fill the gap with words from word bank. 6) Ss will do the task individually first and then check the answers with partners via BORs. Then, answer keys will be provided.

Freer practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

7) I will ask the below question: Tell your partner what types of film you like or don't like. Why? 8) Ss discuss the question in pairs via BORs. 9) Final feedback
