Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of names of articles of clothing in the context of shopping.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in expressing opinions in the context of shopping.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show a picture of a shopping mall; elicit ideas for topic.

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Students match pictures of different articles of clothing with the names for those articles eg. blouse, skirt, jeans, etc. in b/o rooms Review in open discussion, elicit answers from students and clarify any questions.

Teach (8-10 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

MFP for different articles of clothing tested in Test 1 stage.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Students will do a gap-fill exercise in b/o rooms with the terms reviewed in the teach stage to compare with Test 1. Return to class for open class feedback and clarification of any terms.

Free practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In b/o rooms, have students agree on a list of 5 articles of clothing that they like to shop for, and 5 articles that they don't like shopping for. Be prepared to report in open class discussion. Students return from b/o rooms, error focussed feedback on lists.
