Description

In this lesson, students will learn how to ask and give directions using the text-based framework in the context of tourism. The lesson starts with a small pair discussion. This is followed by a reading gist task where students read about a person that works in 3 different countries every day.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

*Teacher greets students *Teacher displays the first slide. "Take a look at this question: Do you think is possible to work in different countries within the same day?" I will give you two minutes to discuss this question in pairs. ICQs: Are you working in pairs or idividually? How much time do you have for this? *After students finish discussing, share opinions in the main room.

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

*To have follow up with the lead-in's question, the teacher shows a written text. "Guess what guys? it is possible to work in different countries within the same day!." *I'll give you 3 minutes to read this short text individually about the man who works in three countries every day and while you read, I want you to answer these questions: -In what countries does Juan Oliveira works? -Of the countries where Juan works, Which one does he like the least? -What is Juan’s job? *After the 3 minutes are over nominate students that haven't participated much to read and answer the questions. "Very good guys, now, here we have the routes that Juan follows to be in 3 countries every day, lets's listen to the directions that he makes "

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

"Now, here are some phrases that we listened to from the audio, let's take a close look at them" *Introduce MAFP* (Language Analysis sheet)

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

"Now, let's put into practice the phrases that we just learn" I'll give you a link and you will be answering this activity individually, you will have 3 minutes for this activity. "Okay, guys how did it go?" Let's check together Ask for volunteers or nominate students. Then for a semi-controlled practice ask students to answer a small conversation related to giving instructions. They will have to underline the correct alternative to complete the conversation. Give students 2 minutes to answer, then select two students to act the conversation and check the answers.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

"Now guys we are going to do a little more challenging activity" Students will be working in pairs on BOR. Time for this activity: 8 minutes (4 minutes for each student) "I will be giving you two maps, first student A is going to look at the map and ask student b for directions, student B will provide directions. After 4 minutes, you are going to change roles and move to map 2 but now student A will provide directions and student B will ask for directions".
